Why do we often have dry feet… even after a pedicure?

A pedicure is supposed to leave our feet feeling incredibly soft, right? Yet, many people find that their feet become dry again… sometimes even faster than before the treatment. So, why does this dryness persist , and more importantly, how can we prevent it permanently ? We'll explain everything.

The skin on the feet: a fragile… and neglected area

Our feet bear our entire weight, mostly confined in shoes, often without ventilation. As a result, the skin naturally thickens to protect itself (this is called hyperkeratosis ).

But unlike other areas of the body, the soles of the feet do not have sebaceous glands , which normally produce sebum to moisturize the skin. They are therefore naturally drier and more vulnerable .

Pedicure: care or stripping?

A classic pedicure (commonly called a foot treatment) often focuses on removing dead skin using files or blades. This is effective… in the short term. But if too much keratin is removed at once , the skin reacts by quickly creating an even thicker protective layer . This is the infamous rebound effect: your heels feel dry, even rough, again after just a few days.

Dehydration is the real culprit.

The real problem isn't so much the calluses themselves: it's the lack of hydration and regular aftercare following a pedicure . If the skin isn't deeply nourished, it dries out, cracks, and the calluses return… sometimes worse than before.

So how do you avoid dry skin after a pedicure?

Here are our 3 essential steps to keep your feet soft and healthy, in the long term:

1. Do not strip too much

Opt for gentle exfoliation rather than an aggressive scrubbing tool. The goal isn't to have "perfect" skin immediately, but to preserve the skin barrier. Your ally here is a pumice stone.

2. Nourish intensely after treatment

This is where it all happens. A nourishing cream or balm , applied the day after the pedicure (and daily afterwards), will repair the skin deeply , soothe tightness and prevent the return of cracks.

3. Create a regular routine

Effective foot care takes less than 5 minutes a day . In the evening, a quick massage with a rich balm helps prevent dryness and softens the skin day after day.

The right approach: a complete ritual

Once or twice a week:

  • Warm foot bath to soften the skin

  • Gentle scrub or pumice stone

  • Apply a generous amount of repairing balm , ideally before bedtime.

And in between, we feed them daily. Simple, but incredibly effective.
